STATEMENT
Existing in a world entirely of their own creation, artist and bog-land creature Kat Stanley hand-crafts an existence in which the ceremonial expulsion of female rage is a welcomed act of catharsis. Through painting, performance, and film they have made an alienatingly intricate world in which every detail is saturated in folk belief, forcing audiences to think critically about the visceral reaction they are having towards the work all while summoning a revival in Celtic understanding to a range of audiences, from nightclubs to galleries.The following project is a study of rage. Female Rage is an organic and bubbling element. It is a pot into which poison has been poured for millennia, an inevitable byproduct of patriarchal oppression, simmering and boiling with no release. It is generational, etched into our bones. The pain of our mothers’ scar’s mutate as our own experiences deepen these archaic wounds, the expulsion of this pain often equating to societal damnation. However, in Irish folk belief, femme figures are central elements to the world’s constant state of creation and collapse, their form acting as a source of visceral power transcending the mortal realm and its laws which must give way to the delicious power of the monstrous femme.
